Full-Day Kindergarten

Full-Day Kindergarten has been fully implemented into all Ontario elementary schools as of September 2014

Full-Day Kindergarten for four-and-five-year-olds will run every day from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. A qualified Teacher and a registered Early Childhood Educator will work together as an educator team to deliver the Early Learning Kindergarten Program. The average class size will be 26 students, with a pupil-to-adult ratio of 13:1.

Assuming sufficient interest, a Before and After School Program may be offered at each Catholic elementary school. Program times are tentatively set at 7:30 am - 9:00 am and 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm during the months of September to the end of June.

A child may be enrolled in one or both parts of the Before and After School Program. Parents will pay a per day fee for the before and/or after school portion. Subsidized spaces will be available according to financial need and eligibility. The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board administers the subsidies for the program

According to our Board’s Transportation Policy:

  • Yes: If your child resides in the school zone and attends the school component but not the before and after school component of the program.
  • No: If your child attends the FDK from outside the school zone. Where children participate in the before and after school program, parents will be responsible for transportation.

If there is sufficient interest, our Board will endeavour to engage the services of a local child care provider to offer a before and after school program in other Catholic Elementary Schools that presently do not offer such programs. Parents will be charged a competitive fee for the service. Please complete the Statement of Interest for a Before and After School Program and return it to the school with your child’s registration. Any additional schools offering the before and after school program in September 2017 will be announced at a later date.

Fair Start

FAIR START is a joint community venture designed to give all children a FAIR START in school through early identification/intervention.

FAIR START offers parents of children entering school for the first time an opportunity to have their children screened for language, hearing, vision, motor, and cognitive skills. With early screening, if a child is identified as needing further assessment, intervention, or follow up, early intervention will improve his or her chance of success upon entering school.

A Fair Start Screening Booklet is included in your Kindergarten registration package.

Please complete the booklet and return it to your neighbourhood Catholic school along with your registration.
